Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic

January 13th, 2008 at 03:53 pm

My finances have hit an iceberg (college). I should be getting the women and children into the lifeboats, right? The water level is rising fast! So saving another $100 or $200 a month probably isn't going to save our ship. Not that I can ignore cutting expenses, but I need to make more drastic maneuvers. Oh well, until then, I don't like the position of these deck chairs!

Ralph, you crack me up - although I know it isn't funny :O on your end, however, I love the analogy!

Thanks, luxliving. I do get a lot of mileage out of that deck chairs on the Titanic thing - a very good source of black humor. Smile

Now c'mon. Yes, I love the humor, but never think it is hopeless! Make the deck chairs into flotation devices and live man, live!! PS, every little bit helps!

Having spent the last eight years with college expenses and facing a couple more....I feel your pain. It is a worthwhile investment in their futures. But, it isn't easy. Keep your head above water and tread like crazy!

Yes, I'd agree with the other posters Ralph, it's time for you and wifey to batten down the hatches and to keep rowing in the SAME DIRECTION for this focused time.

How is that portion coming along?

A little better. looking more hopeful. I was mentioning to her how she had spent thousands on clothes and she started questioning me (I may have exaggerated a tad), so that's why I'm now looking to restart with using financial software to keep us focused on where the money is going versus where it should be going.
